Pinna: The external section of the ear that perch on each side of the head. The function of this part of the ear is to collect/funnel the sound and route it into the ear canal. as seen in diagram above. Tympanic membrane Also known as the ear drum , the membrane will branch out across the ear canal. the function of this part of the ear is converting/transferring vibrations to energy into the middle section of the ear to 3 bones located in the middle of the ear . The picture below indicates where the Tympanic membrane is located at.
Ear Ossicles: These are 3 small looking bones ( hammer , anvil and stirrup) which are located at he middle section of the ear, the function of this part of the ear is to help boost up the vibrations coming from the Tympanic membrane. the image below shows the 3 different types of the the tiny bones within the middle of the ear.
Oval window: The part of the ear that links the 3 small bones (Ossicles) to the cochlea the function of this part of the ear is to pick up the vibrations coming from the Ossicles and are passed into the cochlea fluid. the picture below shows where the oval window would sit.
Round window: This is the membrane that separates the middle ear and also the cochlea, the function of this part of the ear is to help balance out the pressure within the cochlea .The image below shows where the round window lies.
Cochlea: The cochlea is something like a fluid chamber that is a snail shell like shape(shown below in the picture), it is responsible for changing vibrations into electromagnetic impulses that are sent to the brain.
Organ of Corti:this is a small spiral organ located within the cochlea, the purpose of it is to help with the transfer of vibrations to electromagnetic impulses from tiny hair cells
Auditory nerve: The auditory nerve is the last of the line of the ear which then transfers the impulses to the brain. The diagram below shows where the auditory nerve is located.
